Chetopa making big plans for July 4 festivities

The Chetopa Chamber of Commerce met for their monthly meeting at the Mae Lessley Community Center on Monday. The meal was provided by the ladies from the Chetopa United Methodist Church.

Shawn Carter, president of the Oswego Chamber of Commerce, joined Chetopa for their meeting and George Davis welcomed him. Davis also recognized new Chamber member Kandi Midgett. The minutes from the last meeting and the treasurer’s report were approved with no changes and a motion was carried to pay two bills totaling $75.

Discussion was held on plans for the upcoming 4th of July celebration. President George Davis said the fish fry is set up and they have people to cook but will need more volunteers to serve. Besides fish, the chamber will also have hamburgers, hot dogs, Polish sausages, pop and water for sale.

Cynda Jarrett asked for a good location to set up the inflatables. There will be four different inflatables for the kids to enjoy during the celebration. No location was specified.

Vendors are needed. The Chamber asked for everyone to contact any vendors that might want to participate.

In other business:
Jon Forst gave information on the Red Cross Softball Tournament to be held Saturday, June 11, beginning at 8 a.m. in Elmore Park. They will have lunch and concessions.

A motion was made and carried to donate $100 towards purchasing concession supplies. The Chetopa quota for fundraising for Red Cross is $2,915. That has been met for this year, but they need to start raising money for next year.

Several fund raisers for Kim Juenemann were discussed including a 5K run/walk and a barbeque dinner the FFA kids are working on.

A motion was made and carried to donate $50 to Tyler Pike for travel expenses as he travels to Canton, Ohio, for the Blue-Grey National Super Combine on June 18.

The next meeting will be a special meeting to finalize plans for the 4th of July celebration. It will be held on Wednesday, June 29, at 5:15 p.m. at the Mae Lessley Community Building.
