The City of Chetopa was founded in 1857 along the Neosho River.  The River was a main source of livelihood for the city with several saw mills, a button factory, and of course transportation down stream on the "Katydid".  The Neosho is still the main attaction to our quiet little community, whether you want to just throw in a line and sit back in the shade and hope for a bite.  Try your hand at spoon bill snagging, the season runs from March 15th through May 15. There are many historic homes in Chetopa including Col Cook's Home built in 1875,  located at the corner of 7th & Maple Street, as well as City Hall built in 1872 as the Neosho Valley Investment Company that is located at the corner of 4th & Maple Street.  The City invites you to check out their web site at www.chetopacity.com.
